A Thought.... Re: Other Newsreels |
It seems like almost all other newsreels are either (a) under copyright or (b) has limited quantities. However (and here is where it gets tricky) Castle Films also produced Newsreels. I know, I know! I read where the Universal Collection did NOT include the Castle Films. However, according to Rick (in another unrelated post that I made) he said the some of the Castles are PD and some are not. Could it be possible that the Castle Newsreels just might be PD? Also, OFFICIAL FILMS released newsreels as well... BUT.... finding those might be like looking for the head of a pin on a beach. The U.S. Governemnt also produced newsreels (if you want to classify them as such) during World War II that were primarily shown for the purpose of providing updates on the war. Perhaps those are around some where. I've also been doing some digging and searching to see what, if anything else, is out there. If all else fails, there could always be a section for those 'MGM and WB one-reel-wonders' and as I have discovered so far, there are a ton of those that are no longer under copyright protection. Is it even feasible to think that someone at Time Warner would devulge which WB and MGM shorts are not under copyright? Come to think of it that would be wishful thinking, I'll retract that statement!

Re: A Thought.... Re: Other Newsreels |
We'll definitely keep an eye out for whatever newsreels are out there.
Regarding, the One-Reel Wonders shown on TCM, some of those may be PD. Give me some titles, years and the studio that made them and I'll be happy to do do some research.

Re: One Reel Wonders (Titles) + Other Info |
I'll post them out here I just have to go through some of them to get the 'dates' off of them. On a related topic...... there was also a series produced by the U.S. Army called 'THE BIG PICTURE' -- what ever happed to all of those? Also, there was the 'MARCH OF TIME 1935-1967' Finally, I was over on the NARA Webstie and you may want to double check the status of Paramount Newsreels 1940-57, Fox Movietone News 1957-63 and News Of The Day 1963-67.
